This week in the Science lab we look at the plants we planted last week. Our plant has grown into a little sprout. It has only been a week and our plant has grown way faster than I thought.
We put our plant back into the light incubator without watering it.
Remaining question:
- Will our plant continue to grow if we did not water it?
In the lab, we also discussed the 5E model of instruction. The 5E model includes: engaging, exploring, explaining, elaborating, and evaluating.
- Engage: Activities that capture the student's attention
- Explore: Helps students build off the prior knowledge they have
- Explain: Providing information about a concept being taught
- Elaborate: Having students apply the knowledge that was learned
- Evaluate: Testing knowledge and abilities learned
The 5E model is an effective tool to incorporate into a teacher's lesson plan. The 5E model allows teachers to create unique learning experiences for students. Using the 5E model students draw connections to prior knowledge, ask open-ended questions, participate in hands-on activities, and develop their own understandings.
How to apply it to the future?
I can see myself using the 5E module in my lesson plans. The 5E model increases curiosity in students which will keep them engaged in the lesson. My favorite part about the 5E model is that it allows traditional and non-traditional assessment. I am not someone who likes giving traditional tests, so if there is another way I can assess my students I will. I like that you can have assessments be projects, concept maps, or presentations.
Hi Amber! I really enjoyed how you cut your blog post into pieces with the questions and templates we were given. I also wrote about how I could use the 5E module in my lesson plans when I become an educator. I also enjoyed how they gave us so many ideas of assessment.
ReplyDeleteHi Amber!
ReplyDeleteI like the layout of your blog! It is super organized! To answer your question about the plant and water I believe the plant would die if we did not water it because it needs water to survive. I also talked about the 5Es in my blog post as well. I really liked that model because it pairs well with the NGSS. I am also someone who does not like giving formal test so this is a great tool to use if you still want to assess students!
Hi Amber. Great job on this blog post. I really like the format and think it is very organized. I too will look to incorporate the 5E model into my teaching. The flexibility it allows for teachers to offer both traditional and non traditional assessments is something that is appealing to me as well. I always preferred the non traditional assessments and feel that those contribute to conceptual learning effectively.
